My Sushi Party!

Today was the day for my 7th birthday party, and this year my theme was… SUSHI! Daddy and I have been going out for Sushi on our “Daddy-daughter date nights”, and I’m learning to LOVE it! Mommy had a lot of fun planning for this one, and Daddy was thrilled to get a good meal (he liked this one better than the pink meat & mashed potatoes party I had a few years ago…).

1

Mommy’s friend lent her some authentic Japanese things, and we hung these super scary masks up!

3

Nannie & Grandpa brought some Sake for the feast!

4

I LOVED the kimono that Mommy was able to borrow!

14

Nannie got in costume too!

15 16

Mommy tried to think of some activities for the party, which wasn’t easy to to, but we loved playing “pick-the mini-marshmallows-up-with-chopsticks-as-fast-as-you-can” game! Everyone had a different technique!

22

Ben just kept running away with the chopsticks…

23

Grandpa had the most ambitious technique…

26

27

Emily just stabbed the marshmallows…

28

Nannie helped Emily count up their marshmallows… they only lost by one (but we think Grandpa cheated a little bit…)

35

Ben had his own technique too…

29 32

… and most of them just ended up in his mouth…

30

Liam wasn’t into the game, but he serenaded us with some beautiful tunes! He LOVES our piano!

33

Mommy found a very old box of origami from when she was little, so we all took a try at making some cool things!

34

36 37

Look at those cups Mommy taught us how to make!

38

40

Mommy & Daddy gave me my very own Sushi service for two plates, so Daddy I can enjoy some sushi at home now!

42

43

Nannie & Grandpa know how much I love cooking, so they got me an awesome cookbook that I was able to read through very quickly!

44

45

Aunt Bridget & Uncle Kevin got the best gift, as always, and gave me my own Slurpee machine! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

48

Thank you Mor-Mor for the clothes and the movie we love, “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs: 2”!

49

Thank you everyone for the wonderful gifts!

50

The best part of the party was when we got to try making our own sushi rolls!

51

The first roll Daddy & I made was a cucumber roll…

53

54

56

Not too bad for our first try…

58

I popped them in my mouth before he was even done cutting them all…

59 60

…BUT Daddy put WAY too much wasabi on it, and my mouth almost burned up!

61 62

The second roll we tried was a California roll with crabmeat, avocado & cucumber…

65

66

This one was MUCH better!

67a 68

69

Uncle Kevin tried making a California roll too, but he put a bit too much rice in at first…

71

72

74

… and we weren’t sure why some of his cucumber was so tall, but we just pretended it was Abby’s candle… Good try Uncle Kevin!

75

We thought ours looked good until we got a look at the platter we ordered from the restaurant… We might need to practice a little bit more…

76

77

Mommy made the traditional salad with ginger dressing…

78

… and pinwheel turkey rollups to look like sushi for everyone who wasn’t too adventurous…

79

I went right for the sushi though!

80

I also love miso & seaweed soup…

81

… and Japanese noodles!

82

Emily just had Cinnamon Toast Crunch… no surprise there!

83

Everyone toasted me on my birthday, but I didn’t realize I grabbed Mommy’s glass of Sake…

84

… It was worse than the wasabi roll that Daddy made, and I spit it all out!

85

Bridget taught Nannie how to use chopsticks…

86

But I have my own technique… Just stab them! It’s so much easier!

87

88

Daddy taught us what everything was, and everyone tried some sushi, and it was all a big hit! Nannie tried everything and we had to get her a bigger plate!

90

Even Grandpa tried a horribly offensive roll with rice & cucumber in it…

92

93 94

We don’t think he’ll be having it again, but thanks for trying it Grandpa!

98 99

For dessert, Mommy & Aunt Bridget made individual sushi cakes rolled in fondant & rice crispy “sushi” rolls! They were so cute!

101

102

Now that’s what I call dessert!

103

105

106

109 110

Even Emily tried some “sushi”… Ok, it was a Swedish fish, but at least she tried something new!

111

Thank you everyone for celebrating my special day with sushi!!!!

From the time my pal and that I walked in, this gym felt like home. We go to the small groups with Ace training us and he has been amazing. He is very knowledgeable and personable. I normally feel awkward when a newcomer to a gym, however, the staff here made me feel totally welcome! I highly recommend at www.john14-6.org.

This Downtown Designs Barrington place is great. They were able to come and reglaze our tub yesterday and it looks beautiful. I am very happy with the professional and clean job they did. Very minimal clean up, highly recommend. We had the tiles in our bathroom deglazed instead of replacing them.
