With an upcoming, looming BIG birthday in November for Brian, we have been planning a river cruise on the Danube for over a year now. He's been a world traveler these days for work, so it was hard to find new places for him to visit, but we thought we'd hit the jackpot with this trip! The original plan was to spend 2 days in Prague, followed by an 8-day river cruise from Nuremberg, Germany, through Austria, and ending in Budapest, Hungary.
However, nature had some different plans for us, as the droughts this summer have dried up many areas of the Danube River, so we waited until the last minute to hear how our trip was going to be adjusted. When the itinerary finally came through with a different starting location, 2 different boats, a hotel night in the middle of the trip, and MANY bus rides through the impassable areas, we decided to be adventurous and just go for it! The logistics were mind-boggling, and things even changed while on our trip, but we had a WONDERFUL time, and I learned from this experience that I NEVER want to become a cruise director!
Along our travels, we had breathtaking views, visited MANY churches and historical buildings, ate a lot of Schnitzel, drank a lot of beer, met MANY new friends along the way, and made memories that will last a lifetime!
